Does this TV have any potential or is it a recycle?
« on: July 24, 2012, 11:15:23 pm »
I just brought home a free Sansui DTV2798 27 inch TV.

it has S video and composite inputs, but the size and the momentary power switch are a drag.

I'm thinking this isn't the belle for my arcade cabinet ball though the budget rules out an arcade monitor.  Thoughts?

set up some stuff

see if you can get mame running on it, see how it looks,

if it's.....meh, it's okay...hold onto it. see if something better comes along, if it looks good enough to you, chop into it.

see if it powers up if you hold down the button and plug it in. power switches like this  can be bypassed easily enough with some solder. if not a cap will probably work.

I have what I think is a very similar TV (same model #, but with an A at the end) and it is in the running to go into a Smash TV cab for my homebrew game project. Mine is actually 26" in reality, has component, and does return to power/input when you disconnect and reconnect power. I have actually been looking for a spare locally- but I am not sure that my "A" model is the same as your DTV2798.

(My debate on it is whether I want to design my game in 4:3 so it looks like an old school game or just do a 16:9 LCD and not make a heavy cab way heavier... I am still waffling on this).

Anyway, just my 2 cents, looks like I might have a similar model to that one. Of course, at last count I have 14 project TVs... I have a problem....
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter
