Someone handed me a Phillips instead of sending it off to the landfill or to Guiyu. (You don't really think these things get recycled locally do you?) so for a free 55" inch TV I figured it's worth a looksee. If I can repair it for a few greens, I think I can live with it. If not, then I'll just toss it into my boneyard.
After a bit of research, I'm quite positive I have a convergence issue. Some Googling and I came across
T.V. Repair Kits which has a kit for $60. Umm... OK I guess. But I'm feeling a little cheap, especially after seeing the STK392-120 on ebay for about $4 a piece. If I can work out the resistor values, I think I'm golden and possibly get it repaired for under $20.
Here's the deal. A lot of sites talk about using the
original remote to access the service menu to adjust the convergence settings. The user and Quick start manuals don't offer any alternative method of accessing the menu (why???). I don't have the remote so I guess it sucks to be me. I don't really want to spend $30 on a remote I may end up throwing away anyways.
Anyone got any ideas? Maybe service manual with remote codes I can feed into a microcontroller circuit to emulate the remote? A place I can find matching remotes on the cheap. A forum that has better answers?
I don't have anything to lose except cash and I'd rather sink a large chunk of my change into a cabinet or a brand new flat screen rather than fix a busted TV.
