My (new) Makvision just went black!
« on: June 24, 2012, 10:24:31 am »
Ok, so I bought a new 29" (27") tri-mode Makvision/Wei-Ya monitor from Xgaming last year and I have been using it in my cab ever since. Although it has worked "ok" I have still had a few issues with it, one being that some resolutions are a bit "shaky". So today I disconnected the degauss coil (cable) as I thought the shaking was degauss-related, but when I turned my cab on again the monitor is all black. I can "hear" that it's turning on, but there is absolutely no picture.

I tried reconnecting the degauss cable and still no picture. HELP!

Any advice on what to do?

Dang .. I wish I still had my WG D9800 .. :(

do you have a glow from the tube heaters?
if you turn up screen volts do you get a raster?

No, there is no glow from the tube heaters. Also, I'm not sure how to turn up screen volts?

screen volts is next to focus on the flyback transformer-check if you have static on the screen also

No neck glow means no high voltage. I would also check to see if the flyback went bad. You never know.

Keep in mind that a lot of these modern digital monitors have HV supply that's not driven by the horizontal output and do not derive their heater voltage from the flyback at all.  Obviously, you aren't going to get a picture with no heater, but "no heater == no HV" is not a particularly valid assumption on these monitors.

What is weird that this happened when I connected and disconnected the degauss cable. It worked perfectly before I did that.. Maybe it's related?

some of these monitors have a ground stud near the degauss plug. You haven't accidentally plugged a ground into the degauss plug have you? (i've done it.)

check your fuses and make sure you didn't blow anything.

is this the M3129?

Nope, didn't pull any other plugs. I will check the fuses thanks!

BTW, I haven't had time to look at this issue in a while, but I turned my cab on yesterday just for fun and suddenly the monitor had picture again. But the picture was all washed out, bright and blinking. It looked totally messed up.

I uploaded a video of it here:

Has anyone seen anything like this and can tell me what's wrong?

Ok, I'm a total noob. I don't know where the B+ is and I don't even have a voltage meter to read it. :)

Anyways, I have tried unplugging and re-plugging the degauss coil. I haven't tried anything else because I am certain that I haven't touched any of the pots.

Should I just get a new chassis/motherboard? Having another CRT monitor of this size shipped to Norway will cost me no less than $1k .. :(
