This game has long been on my list of ebay searches* that I do almost daily just waiting for that perfect storm of decent price and having a couple dollars to spare.

I suppose I should be asking the same question.

*I've got a folder in the link bar of firefox that includes about 20 things like some of the arcade machines on my want list.  I right click on the folder and select "open all in tabs."  It's a pretty effective way to keep current on things you're looking for.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Wow, that is some controller.  There is a 360 version coming out soon although I have some doubts because it is Kinect driven.

Played it at the UK CGE expo last November.  It is a beast, and you better have room for it all.

It was totally awesome but you needed to have patience with it, but if you have chance of getting one, grab it and make a dedicated station for it.  :applaud:
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I think it's a no brainer for anyone living in the US. I just had to have one, picked one up cheap from the UK, freight to Australia was about $130! If you are in the US, and you get bored of it, you can always sell it again, probably for more or less what you paid for it. But for us antipodeans, because it was never sold here, if it comes to Australia, it's pretty much staying here...

I haven't played it much recently, but I don't regret buying it. There is something I have to get done this year, and if I get it done, I've decided I'm going to build a sit-in cab for this controller. Will be quite a challenge design-wise, not least of all because the assembled controller is wider than your average doorway.

We are talking about the original version right? Not the kinnect version? I'm not sure what the point of a kinnect version is, to me the point of the original IS the controller!

Please, please don't use the term 'perfect storm', it's one of those naff terms journalists have picked up on and never let go. Drives me up the wall. Everything is 'perfect storm' this, 'something-gate' that...

Well, what finally persuaded me was people have hacked this thing to work with Mechwarrior 3 and 4.  I just couldn't stomach the price for one game alone.

Gave the typical no BS I'll haul it away at your convenience offer and this is what I came home with:

(that's at the seller's house.  this thing will never be in an uncrammed room again)

Yes, a car seat mounted to a rolling platform.  The control panel is hinged and swings forward so you can get in and out.  It needs to be scrubbed down and I may clean up a few things but it's solidly built.  Controls were secured with velcro tape so no ugly mods there.

Anyway, I'll cram this in the gameroom (somehow) and probably toss a dedicated Xbox under the seat.

Lucky you!  How much did that set you back?

Wiped it down, slapped some vinyl cleaner on the seat.  Shoved it into gameroom.

That's it with the control panel tilted forward.  Thank god my front butt isn't any bigger cause I fit.  I'm going to have to do something with the pedal platform.  It makes for a nice compact setup but as-is they're impossible to use.  My wife's 5'4" and couldn't use them either.

They did the old 32X trick and made the gameplay window smaller than it should be to keep the graphics snappy.  On a 27" 4:3 CRT it's just about borderline too small.  Definitely need a flat screen for this game.

Can't get the game to load off the HD.

Game itself is pretty fun.  Very difficult.

Paid $100 for the chair, game, controller.  Round trip was an hour, including loading and unloading.   ;D

bloody awesome! Although I haven't gotten far enough, as you advance, the instruments around the forward view become less obtrusive, and thus you have a larger field of vision...

Spent some time on this.  Definitely the best $100 I've chunked at a console in a long time.  Kinda feels like sitting on an Xbox throne.   ;D  Very playable with the pedals tossed on the floor and the game definitely improves if you put it on Normal and ignore Rookie.  Also a good idea to set up multiple characters and play through the missions because death is surprisingly final for a video game.

Excellent. Don't forget to leave the eject button cover open for quick access  ;D

Years ago they were dumping these brand new at GameStop by me for $45 bucks.  :banghead:
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

I think guys that are into flying and racing sims would appreciate it more.

As a guy who is into flight sims, or at least used to be, I enjoy the crap out of this game.  Last year there were two set up and networked at Midwest Gaming Classic.  I want to pick one up, but never think of it until I've spent the money. I'd probably have to sell a pinball machine to make room for a rig for this anyway.
