RGB to COMPONENT video converter
« on: May 23, 2012, 01:37:57 pm »
I am looking to buy a RGB to COMPONENT video converter and have only been able to find one version that I think would work.  The only problem is that the website does not let you buy it directly, it tells you to email them.  Well I have emailed them two weeks ago and have had no response, so Im basically seeing if there are any other options for me.  The site I was trying to bu from is http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html  And I was wanting the v4.1  (which is only the RGB to COMPONENT)

If anyone knows of another site that would be a huge help...

I dont know if it will help for me to tell you how Im wiring this but what Im doing is going from and Original DK board to a video inverter.  and then from the video inverter to a RGB to component converter.  and then from the converter to my TV that has component plug-ins.  Thanks!

Were you using a video invertor for the monitor you already have in your cab? You dont need that.  Just run the red, green, blue, and sync from your DK board (should be pins U-17-V-18) to a converter board and you should be good.  I can't see why you would want to run component.  You can get a cheap rgb to s-video/composite for $40 http://www.jammaboards.com/store/video-converters/  CRT televisions are practically free on craigslist now.  Your colors and everything will be fine on composite, just fyi.

wut?  ???

you will need an inverter for that particular converter as it only will accept positive sync. others will take any. your DK board is negative sync. you only need to invert the sync line not the video too. a simple circuit IC will do that for you. (74LS04 i think it is.) the whole circuit should cost you under $5 to make.

i'mn ot sure about units such as these: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/cga-ega-yuv-to-vga-arcade-hd-converter-pcb-gbs-8220-gbs-8220.html if they will take either positive or negative signal. but they are available from jammaboards and happ

and it's:
U RED
V BLUE
17 GREEN
18 Sync (negative)

Donkey Kong uses negative going color signals too....which won't play ball with a regular monitor/tv.

yep, you're absolutely right. been a number of years since i've had to work on one.

the 74LS04 will output 2 volts high, suppose that would drive the monitor with an amplifier...but an MC74LCX14 will output 5 volts (well whatever Vcc you feed it...you would need 5 volt TTL in this case.)
