How to use bezel art in Mame...
« on: May 17, 2012, 11:52:32 am »
Update:

OK, I called the WHINE-1-1 and the WAAAH-mbulance is on the way for our little emergency.   :laugh2:

Anyway...I'm at work and was looking through some old cab builds and OF COURSE one of Knievel's came up.  So, I noticed that on some of his screenshots he's running bezel art on his vertical games.  So, I just put the question out here as a knee jerk...

Then, I simply typed in "bezel art MAME" in google and read some and found some good answers such as Mr. Do's page:

http://mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_faq.html

The long and short of it is that the bezel art...for my 19" LCD won't work for me because it takes up 3 inches on the top of the image and a couple on the bottom, effectively cutting my montor space down a BUNCH.  But for those who want to know...Mr. Do's explanation is great.

So why don't you leave the question, and post the answer, in case someone else has the same issue you did?

I think his question was: "What is a good way to mildly irritate one of the Mods around here?"  :P

Sounds like someone is showing off that they actually searched for something instead of posting first.  Newbs...

I'm confused  ???

If the point of this post was "how do I use artwork and still show the whole game screen," the answer is choose the option "Crop to Screen."

If not, what was the question again?

Yes.  That was the point.  However, when running bezels on most non-vertical games, it takes too much of my wimpy 19" monitor.  So, I turned it off for those and left "Crop to Screen" for the verticals.

That's why I deleted the OG post....I shoulda not even posted it to begin with.

You might still want to keep it on for the horizontal games that have backdrops (e.g. Boot Hill, Asteroids Deluxe, etc.).

With the option "Crop to Screen" turned on, it will simply get rid of the bezel part, but still show the backdrop artwork, and leave your screen full size.

YEah, I went game by game and set them up.  I did keep bezels for some games that rarely get played or that I don't know very well so that moves can be learned.  For things like Space Invaders and asteroids, I kept the overlays, etc.

With such a small monitor, the bezel type was usually too small to read anyway.  I can't wait to do a 25" TV.

THanks for a great guide.

Just a quick question in regards to in game bezels. I'm using the artwork from Cooleywire http://www.cooleywire.com/jimmyh/mame/artwork.html for my widescreen games. They are based off the artwork from Mr. Do (and he's credited there.)

I love these bezels but there's only a limited number there. How do I convert bezels that are made for vertical screens into widescreen ones?
