Help identify monitor?
« on: May 04, 2012, 12:40:36 am »
Hi there,

I hope someone can help identify this monitor and provide advice about the best way to hook it up to a pc (whether through an ArcadeVGA, nvidia, radeon, card), or the on-board video (VGA out with a breakout cable or something) on a MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard.

The mobo manual says it has a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE & nForce 430 chipset.  It also has a PCIE 1.0 x16 slot, a x1 slot and 2 PCI.

Anyhow, I checked the 'READ FIRST' thread and looked at all the chassis pics the links provided and did not find a match.  It looked somewhat similar to the Kortek KTM-F20 or 20" Freevolt, or an A-one 15k SC1-HB, or a  MTC/Hantarax 900E, a Pentranic/Eygo...........

This thing is in a smallish sit-down cab and was running a slots type game (8-liner?) so I saw the monitor working before buying and it looked ok, but overly blue-ish.  Anyway, seller pulled the board at time of sale.

Monitor looks to be a 20".  Currently mounted horizontal.

Pics worth many words:

Thanks for any assistance.

Oh, and not the right place for it, but a pic of CP looks like dudes with swords - look familiar to anyone?

Looks exactly like my pentranic 1014
the chassis # is ch-203
the tube is made by orion
but this is a 13" so it may be the ch-688 chassis or ch-288 not sure anymore

Yes, I think it is a CH203. Various versions made but mostly same. Some had the user controls on a separate emote board, some had them mounted on the main board, CH203 made in Taiwan, CH203H made in China. Some boards were green in color, some were "beige". You must use an isolation transformer. My guess is your monitor was made by either Pentranic USA or ALS.
Check on the component side of the board, the model CH203 may be silk screened on the board.

Good luck

Much thanks, gentlemen.

Request advice on how to hook aforementioned motherboard  - MSI K9N6PGM2-V2. The mobo manual says it has on-board NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE & nForce 430 chipset.
It also has a PCIE 1.0 x16 slot, a x1 slot and 2 PCI.

Is it possible to use the on-board video?

If not, or if it would be a royal PITA to try, would an ArcadeVGA be the best choice for ease of setup? Or a PCIE radeon or nvidia with Soft15 or groovymame.
I could use Windows xp or a Linux distro.
However, would like to remain using mame105.
I am not sure if this limits options to use certain cards and/or soft15/groovymame.

With the on-board or other card, would I be able to cut off an end of a vid cable and attach the required wires to the monitor chassis? (which wires? Where on chassis?)

Is a Jpac req'd as a filter (for ArcadeVGA or other)?
Is a signal booster req'd in between?

Is it actually worth the hassle?  (and cost).
The money might be better spent on a 4:3 Lcd?  Opinions?  Facts?

The cab could accommodate a monitor up to approx.
21" wide x 18.5" high with a bit of work and a shoehorn.

Sorry for all the noob questions - so far I've only used PC monitors that were on-hand.

Thanks for any advice,

EwJ
