A couple of questions about the Model 2 Emulator
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:41:23 am »
Hey all,

I've been toying with the Model 2 emulator for a few days, and I have a couple of questions:

1. I'm using the MAME .145 romset, and I noticed that a few of the games (Daytona, Virtua Cop 1, Desert Tank) are popping up "missing file" errors that make me think the roms were changed or renamed somewhere along the line since M2 was written.  I'm totally comfortable with rolling back roms (with CMP and the Rollback set,) but what version would I need to go back to to get those games working?

2. Controller configuration... In other threads I've seen that M2 doesn't handle multiple mice (so HOTD 2-player is out.)  But I'd REALLY like to get Virtual-On working as intended (i.e. dual joysticks).  I'm looking at that emulator cfg and I just don't see it. Am I missing something?  Are there lines that have to be added to the cfg or something? Or am I reduced to a console version of VO?

Thanks!

Not sure about what version the roms were.  You can probably find a set of model 2 roms for use with Sega Model 2 emulator if you search.  There aren't that many games, so even if you have to get them one at a time, it wouldn't take too long.
EDIT: could also compare the release date of the emulator to the release dates of older version of MAME on the MAMEdev website.

IIRC, for Vitual-On, the right stick is mapped under Player 2 controls.

Yeah, I can get the full set, just thought it'd be quicker to rollback the ones I have. I'll have to see... M2 was released last day of 2010... MAME release (on the same day, no less!) was .141.  Hmm.  Looking at the Rollback, doesn't look like there were any rom changes, probably just renames or something... I'll play with this later.

Thanks for the VO info. I guess I was expecting it to look more like MAME's config ("Left Stick"/"Right Stick" etc.) I'll give it a go later and post back if I have issues...
