  • Yes, a fighting snow man does exist!
Me and my father are sorting out all of the details for making a MAME cabinet(we'll be starting our making of our MAME cabinet in late May or early June). I'll be including a variety of both old and new arcade games to my MAME cabinet(ranging from Hard-Hat all the way to Soul Calibur III). I'll also be including some game that aren't compatible with some versions of MAME(such as Galaga and Crazy Kong). I'll also be using a Dual Core Processor PC with only up to 4GB RAM. We're also going to build a control panel with two player controls with one Joystick each with a set of six buttons each, along with a Track-Ball. The control panel will be plugged into the PC via USB. So, which version of MAME that you would all recommend?

What'd I miss?  When did they break Galaga, and why?  ???

They actually didn't break Galaga, I was just confused at the time on how MAME works. You just have to find the right ROM set for Galaga in order for it to work for in MAME.

Hmm, okay.  I have actually been having problems with Bosconian, which uses the galaga.c driver.  I want to run the Midway version, and I know you need to have the original Namco version in the folder as well, but I've dumped all the versions into the same folder and it still won't work.  I've tried versions .146, .144, and .140 but it won't run under any of them.  I found out that the game used the same video hardware as RallyX, so I dumped the main rallyx rom in the folder as well with no luck.  What exactly does this game need to run?  I couldn't find any BIOS file that seemed appropriate, but maybe I'm missing something.

If you try running a command line, you might be able to find what you're missing.  ;)

Here's a link to one of my older threads on how to do it(you'll have to scroll down the page to find the instructions on how to do it):

I'll try that, thanks.  I do have it running under .139u1, but I plan to use at least .144 with my new cab, and may update my older one to that, too.  I was able to see a list of the missing files in MAMEUI, but I didn't think about Googling them until I read your thread.  Much obliged.

Now... I'll go ahead and Google this too, but in case I can't find anything or get too many unrelated results, is there a quick and easy way to covert existing .CHDs to work under .145 and above?
