RANT: Links in the plain borders around website content
« on: April 27, 2012, 10:08:54 am »
WHY DO THIS?!?!!!??!  I just want to give that window focus...I don't want to click on empty whitespace to go to an ad!  RAAWWRR!!!!

Sorry...but I needed to scroll through the latest burn bra post on theChive, and when I clicked in the border to give that window focus, I went to a freaking ad...and they're not the only ones...just needed to rant.

That's nothing. It seems like every site you go to now greys out the screen while a giant ad pops up and you have to actually click the close button on the ad to get to the webpage. And every site has its own iPhone/iPad app. And they throw up a popup asking you if you want to download the app EVERY ---smurfing--- TIME you visit the webpage. Yeah, I declined the last 25 times, but the 26th time the charm, right? ---fudgesicle--- you. I don't want your app. Stop asking.

I used to frequent Tehparadox.com when I was getting in to the Wii mod scene.  Go there now, just humor me, and wait five seconds.  Those ads pop up EVERY TIME YOU CLICK ANYWHERE ON THE SITE.  Just try to read one forum messages, I dare you.  So subscribe and log in, right?  No ---smurfing--- way!  First, you can't even get your login name and password entered before you're subjected to another full screen ad.  Once you do log in, you still get ad-blitzkrieged.  So I get an email asking why I haven't been back there in a while.  I'm sure they had a good laugh reading my response.

Stop going to those sites.  Simple.   ::)

Checked tehparadox...nothing popped up on me.  I hit about 8 or so different pages.  Finally got something I've been hating alot recently.  I hate the video ads that automatically play.  Sometimes the volume might be higher than I want on the speakers, and I get that nice surprise blast that'll startle even the most stoic person.

I'm not too thrilled in visiting espn anymore, either.  If I want to watch their SC recap of whatever the article I want to read is about, I'll press play myself.

Interesting.  I can't navigate that site at all, and I've done all the usual stuff to fix it (cache, virus, hijackthis etc.)  Never tried anything but Firefox.  Maybe I will just to see what happens.
