Are Scart CRT TV's 15, 24 or 31khz???
« on: April 23, 2012, 01:52:29 am »
So by their very nature what are Scart TVs capable of, just a 15khz display or are the 24khz?? As I know the snes console did resolutions like 256x224 up to 512x478 which are both 15khz & 24khz resolutions aren't they? But then also the first Xbox did resolutions as high as 640x480 and 800x600 and I'm sure these are 31khz signals?. So are TVs multisync compatable then??

Most CRT televisions are 15khz only.  They can produce 480 line resolutions through interlacing.

However, in the 2000s several CRT's were made that supported 480p, and even 1080i.  It's all quite variable.

There may be some SCART enabled tv's out there that can support a full 15-31khz range, but they're going to be sort of rare.

for mame purpose stay with old 50-60 hertz 15k units. if u need vga or better try a 100 hertz tv with vga progressive mode feature .
some do it via addon module like grundig and loewe , some via the scart port and a special cable ( some 6xx chassis metz do 640x480 and 800x600 p via scart or component ) or try a philips with hdmi input. i never missed the midres gaming . there are a few racing games i can think of , but why pick em up in midres when there are dozends in vga or 720 p available ? same with fighting games ..
