Gorf Cocktail resto
« on: March 21, 2012, 12:00:24 pm »
Hello everybody. A little topic on my Gorf restoration (from France)
Midway cabs are quite rare in France and Gorf is one of the rarest.
I picked up the cab last summer. The table was in a good esthetic state (even if the glass print was starting to flake badly) but had 2 major issues
1) no PCB
2) no Monitor (and the removal of the monitor was made barbarian style)

Coin door is very rusty

CPs are rusty too but CPO are mint

The interior : No pcb, no monitor, no monitor transfo

For the PCB, it didn't take me long to understand than finding a working one in France would be almost impossible and that getting it from the US would be VERY costly. Since the game was never one of my favorites, I decided to go for the 60in1 solution. The interest of the Gorf cab was the 4 way joystick (needed for pacman style games) and fire button (needed for galaga for example) : I could play most of the games of the card

For the monitor, no real choice either, i opted for the TV and Scart solution

After long hours of work, soldering cables, connecting the card, bezel cutting, etc...I managed to get the video, joysticks and sound working

The electric part is done, i'm starting the "beauty" part
first : the CP. They are heavily rusted but the CPO are great. I plan on removing the rust with paper sanding and painting with roller painter (hope it's the right word). I can't use spray paint because i'm in a really small flat.
I already bought the new underlay from phoenix arcade and plan on sanding/bondo the wood frame and paint black (again with roller). a touch of new Tmolding and i'll finish with the coin door

Gonna start a thread in WTB/WTS for parts i'm missing
Thanks for reading and please accept my apologies for any errors in my english
