The game wants to launch, but fails at initialization, displaying (graphically) this:

found no valid home blocks
QIO error, EOF on file

(red on black)
The game then stop working.

Does that mean my CHD file doesn't work?

Sounds like the CHD may have a problem.  Try to get a new one and see.

I would "mame -verifyroms gaunlet" on it and see if it's ok, and maybe delete the gauntlet.diff if one exists.  If you switched to .145uxx recently, maybe try "chdman -update gauntlet.chd" to update to the newest CHD version.

I always keep 3 backups of everything, so I have a starting point to start troubleshooting.
