There was a similar game called time traveler.

What are you wanting to know about it?

Well, anything I can, I guess. I would really like to try playing either one of these games. And if I have to build one to do it...... Did you get to play them? What was it like? Were the holograms high or low quality? Know of any machines for sale? How about a good website describing them. Like I said just anything. These have cluttered my thoughts over the last few days.

That Time Traveler game was a laserdisc game I think?  I've played it.  As I remember, the "holograms" looked fairly high quality.  It played like Dragon's Lair.  That interactive movie style.

The Holosseum is MAME, holo.zip.  It's kinda boreing.

You may have difficulty building one. If I recall, it had a large concave mirror that gave the illusion of a 3-d hologram. I am sure these are documented somewhere on the net, and I am sure there are people who have a collector's fetish for them.

If you absolutely must have one then I would recommend waiting for an auction buy.

If you have never played one, I strongly suggest you do so before buying.  The Sega Holosseum games all-around bad.. it was really hard to see what was going on (just not designed real well) and the controls and gameplay were non-existant.  I don't know what Sega was thinking with this one..

I also had the opportunity to see one firsthand again recently and they are huge.  There may be a smaller version, but this one would have required double doors to get it inside.

Time Traveler was at the last Dallas Arcade Auction, I don't remember how much it went for though  ???
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Yeah, even as a kid I thought Time Traveller was cool up until I threw my quarters in and started playing.  I understand where your excitement comes from - it seems pretty neat, but it's really not worth much attention.

I'd say that it carries the same wow value as this thing, if you've ever seen one:

Well, maybe I'll reconsider....  :(    Helluva idea though.  (Thoughts of that holographic board/chess game in star wars come too mind!)  You would think that with todays technology something better could be done.

We got a Time Traveller in our local arcade right after it came out - it was very popular for...oh...I'd say a week, before never being touched again.

The bad gameplay is a given (it IS laserdisc), but the worst was trying to see the actual characters...you had to be at a certain angle, like that "magical Mirror illusion thing".  It was kind of like trying to find the sweet spot on those rear-projection TVs, only much, much worse.

That cabinet was supposed to be the start of a whole new platform for Sega, and it died after just two titles (Time Traveller and Holloseum). Forget it, let the laser monkeys fawn over those things. They are nothing but a conversation piece. If you actually want to play a game then you would be better of with ANYTHING other than one of those.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I wonder what a real movie would look like in one of those things. I played the time travaler one a few times but it was 2.00 a play (this was like 10 years ago) and I could never get the timing right. Need less to say. I didn't last very long and 2.00 for 2 or 3 minutes a game wasn't worth it.

LOL, good point.. maybe there was more to these games we've all missed out on due to the pricing?  I should go check for a FAQ..

Probably not, though.. unless there was some kind of dip switch to make the game not suck.. damn it Sega, you turned that one off by default, didn't you? :'(

What if you tried to Mame one of those Hologram games?  Like hook up the PC to it and have it display your game as a hologram?  Would that work?  Its basically just some sort of normal vga monitor that is being reflected so I wouldnt think it would be a problem to hook the PC up to it.  I suppose the thing about Time Traveler and Holoseum is that there was no 'background' in the games giving the illusion that the characters were really standing there.  Playing SF2 as a hologram might be wierd since there is a background.  But it might be cool :)  It would definately be a first on BYOAC.

I've also seen and played the time traveller when I was small in HK,....

the first moment you look at it, its quite cool... cos its quite 3D.....

if you look at the pic of the cab, the screen portion is like a cave... and you look into it....

the objects in there are quite 3D... but I have tried to put my hand in there and touch it... its just projection.... but some mirror effect.... (of course... but I was a kid then...)

game play.... what game play....???..... it just sucks....
I would say its worse than dragon's lair....

Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p
