Boosting a power supply??
« on: March 10, 2012, 04:33:54 pm »
I am connecting a 2-in-1 Jamma adaptor.  The guy who sold it to me said this:
Quote
Yes you should have no problem with connecting both KI1 and KI2 boards into the 2-in-1 MultiJAMMA switcher PCB. Since these boards use a good amount of power each and the 2-in-1 Switcher will power up both boards at once, you might need to power up your +5VDC power supply slightly.

what does he mean I need to boost up my power supply?  does that mean upgrading and getting a whole new one?  is there a way to modify the one that is in my KI2 cabinet?  As always, pretty confused...

He didn't say boost up your power supply. He said turn up your +5vdc. So do exactly that. Measure the 5v getting to the board and turn the +5v knob until it = 5.0v
NO MORE!!

If the boards are under powered then they might freeze up, what he meens by boost up.

Look at the actual board where your power connectors and other stuff is screwed onto, not the game board the other one, there should be a green LED on the board, now, there's a knob that you can turn with a flat head screw driver. Now, use a multi meter and set the multi meter to the 9v option, put the multi meter's thingys one on red termenal, and the other on one black termanal (on the board where the knob is) if the system is under powered it should read about 4.8 volt, now slowly turn the knob with a flat screw driver, slowly to the right, untill you get a reading on the multi meter of about 5.5 volt.

Unplug the power cord at the wall, now remove power cord on the actual game board, and test the power there aswell, the power there would drop there, it should read about 5.3 / 5.4 volt (I think) leave it in that range, but if it reads 5.5 volt, which i doubt it will, leave it as is.

I tried explaining best i could, hope it helps and hope you understand.
