Betson MultiSync Monitor Problem
« on: March 04, 2012, 08:48:50 am »
All,

I purchased a Betson monitor about 3 years ago and used it in my arcade project. I am using the ArcadeVGA card and I have had no problems until recently.

I was doing some backups in Windows and I noticed the monitor image started shrinking on the left and right sides. I am not sure if it happened all at once or over a short period of time.

I tried messing with the monitor controls, but it seems to be stuck this way.

I am assuming this is some sort of monitor hardware problem?

Please see the pictures to see how the monitor picture has shrunk on the left and right sides.

Thanks for your help.

-Steve

if you remove the video signal and then turn up brightness a bit do you still get a narrow image?

Yes. It still gets the narrow image without a signal.

The last picture is the monitor without a signal - the computer is turned off.

Thanks,
-Steve

I think it is a rebadged Kortek KT-2914.

Thanks,

hmm most faults i have had with kortek 2914 are related to the vertical deflection,i did have one burn a hole in the circuit board due to dry solder joints-it was around the switching mosfets

have you tried factory mode yet?

I have not tried Factory Mode.

Off the top of your head do you know how to enter Factory Mode?

Thanks for your help.

This same thing happened to my Betson/Kortek monitor in November.  I took it to a tv repair shop and gave them the service manual. They tried a few things but could not get it to work. I had it for about 4 years.

I think the thing that contributed to the failure something I read in the service manual.  It stated not to turn the monitor on/off again withing several minutes (<5 I think?).  I had my monitor hooked up to a smart strip that turned the monitor on/off with the computer.  If MAME ever locked up people would hit control/alt/delete to reset the computer = this would also turn off the monitor. The computer kept locking up and I kept resetting it with and then noticed the monitor was doing what yours did.

I junked it and am now trying to get a tv set up right - see my post in the main forum today.  Good luck.
