Zinc Questions

I recently installed a command line version of Zinc (for MrDriller since it wouldnt run as good in MAME).  A couple of issues:

1. When it is run in full screen mode it stretches the image instead of placing black bars to keep the games aspect ratio like mame.  Is there a setting to change this to have the game in the proper aspect ratio and not be windowed?
2. Does Zinc save data on exit like high scores?  I have only tried MrDriller but I notice my score is cleared when I go back in
3. If there are no fixes for 1 and 2 is there an alternate emulator to mame and zinc that would fix these issues?

1) Your video card may be able to handle aspect ratio correction if you mess around with it, but if not, there is a plugin for Zinc which fixes this issue. I can't remember what it is, but try googling Pete's Plugins and you should be able to track it down.

2) I'm pretty sure Zinc doesn't do this, but it has been a long time since I've used it.

3) Also pretty sure that Mame and Zinc are the only two emus that will run Playstation hardware arcade games.

Actually you got it backwards begbie80:

Mr. Driller won't run as good in Zinc.  It was one of the last games added to Zinc prior to the final release.. it has some issues that even other zinc games don't have. 

Now it very well could be the case that Mr. Driller runs slower on your pc, but that's your hardware's fault. 


If the "this hardware isn't 100% correct" message you are getting it mame, the game is still as good or better emulated than in zinc.  At the very least it should have your scores and such.  Zinc just didn't come with warning messages is all.

Unfortunately for whatever reason Mr Driller is beyond unplayable for me in MAME, the framerate must be in the single digits.  I do receive MAMEs warning that are problems with the game and video and sound emulation isn't 100%.  Even the sound studders constantly.  As for my hardware my arcade PC is a couple years old, dual core with just a couple gigs of RAM, other than the aspect ratio and high score issue Zinc runs it flawlessly for whatever reason.  If there is something else I might be missing to get this running like a champ please let me know.

I tried looking for that plugin but I wasn't sure if they were for a different build of Zinc than the one I have as mine is just the command line version.  I didn't see a way to add/install the dll files to the emulator.

Sorry, I haven't used Zinc in awhile and forgot how much of a ---smurfette--- it is to do stuff like this in it without a frontend - try downloading Amazinc from Pete's site as well...it's a Zinc frontend. That should make things a lot easier.
