A buddy gave me The Walking Dead comic in jpg format.  Can I convert a group to a format that can be viewed on iPad?  The files are arranged like this:

C:\The Walking Dead\01\1.01.jpg
C:\The Walking Dead\01\1.02.jpg
...
C:\The Walking Dead\01\1.25.jpg

C:\The Walking Dead\01\2.01.jpg
C:\The Walking Dead\01\2.20.jpg
etc.

Ideally, I'd like each issue to appear in my iBooks app as a separate "book" - any ideas?

Try converting them to a .pdf instead. That's what I do.

Try calibre.... it's "dontate ware" so you can try it for free and pay a couple of bucks if you like it.  It'll convert anything to anything basically....... I used it to convert my walking dead cbrs to epub/pdf.  ;)

Thanks guys - I'll DL and try that program.  I had no idea that .rar/.zip files could be renamed .cbr/.cbz!  I guess I could use Stanza to read them in that format but I think I'd rather have them all in my "library" instead of yet another icon on my iPad.

if you're going to be reading a bunch of comics on your iPad, consider picking up Comic Zeal.  It's not free, but it is a GREAT comic app for iOS.  I love it.

You know they have apps specifically for reading comics in the stack of jpegs format. You don't need to convert anything. I have android not iphone, but there are at least a half dozen android apps for that, so there would almost certainly be an iphone one.

well online comics are generally distributed in cbr or cbz though, so to *extract* them into a stack of jpegs would simply add an extra step.  ;)

I've got a CBR app called "The Challenger" on my Kindle.  It was free and amazing.  If you've got a Kindle Fire, you need to scoot to getjar immediately.

Looks Good!

You know one of us is going to have to start the inevitable "good apps for your tablet" thread.

Hmmm... I think I might spend the $5 on this.  I've watched a few videos and it looks like this app is WAY better than iBooks for reading comics simply because you can pinch and zoom as well as create subfolders for different comic series.  $5 seems pricey though, which is sad (because $5 for a program is cheap) and why iTunes is overrun with $1/Free garbage.

Just to follow up - I spent some time digging through the app store and I found "Pulp Reader" which does a really nice job.  You can create folders for series, it keeps track of what you've read, you can pinch or double tap to zoom, there's no load time when switching pages, etc.  It's working for my needs and most importantly, it's FREE!  There's so much out there to read...

The Walking Dead is great so far by the way - I'm 4 issues in and I can already tell it is going to be better then the TV show (and I love the show).
