« on: February 25, 2012, 01:39:01 pm »
I have a Sega Rally with a 29" monitor going down the crapper :banghead:
Is there any scart tv capable of showing a 24khz picture?
I dont want to go lcd and a new 29" multisync monitor is reeeeeally expensive.

Thanks

why not just replace the chassis with a multisync one,if you tell me what chassis you have i can tell you which replacement chassis you can fit

Very unlikely you're going to find a TV that can do it.

Depending on what's wrong with your existing monitor, you may be able to swap either your existing monitor boards onto a "donor" TV tube or replace just the boards (keeping your existing tube) with a new set as grantspain mentioned.

You could also grab a TV with a tube in good shape, replace the boards as grantspain mentioned, and essentially have a new monitor for maybe $100-200 and some of your time.

Thanks for the replys guys :)

I'm pretty sure the chassis is ok because I swapped chassis between the two monitors (Its a Sega Rally twin btw) and the problem did not move.
It is impossible to get a good focus and colours are all washed out. Picture on the other monitor is A+ regardless of chassis.

Is there any way to know which TV is suitable for a chassis swap? 29" crt tvs are pretty easy to come by here in Sweden.
I know my chassis (Sanwa PM1745) is interchangeable with the Rodotron 666a-29 and WeiYa C31291A.

oh yeah I see, tube is knackered.
You could try to find a 29" tv with the same curvature but you would need to perform a yoke swap.

The yokes on the pm1745 tubes are 0.300mh whereas the majority of tv tubes are 0.900 to 1.5mh on the horizontal winding of the yoke.

If you don't match the yoke specs to within an acceptable range then you will cause damage to the deflection circuit of the chassis.

There is a Swedish member on AO forums called uncletom,if you can contact him maybe he can help you further as he has done alot of work with chassis matching on tv tubes. He is in Stockholm I believe.
