Noob looking for a 4-player cab large LCD plan
« on: February 25, 2012, 09:08:58 am »
I am considering my first mame cab and not very good at woodworking.  Considered going kit from mameroom, but is 25-27" monitors really big enough for a 4 player cab?  I really like the look of the 37" LCD cabs on ebay, but I really want to do all the internals myself.

I definitely want a UAII design look over a showcase.  I just prefer the classic look over the new style.

Anyone know of any plans or anyone I could talk to that has done a large monitor size 4-player cab?

Classic look? The Ultimate arcade II doesn't really resemble any real arcade cabinets. It isn't the best design for 4 player cabinets, as it has a screen that basically sits straight up and down, while most factory 4 player cabinets leaned the monitor back quite a bit in order to improve the viewing angle for the 3rd and 4th player. Look at a Simpsons or TMNT machines to see what I mean.

25" monitors are indeed big enough for 4 player machines, every 4 player machine you remember came with them standard.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Well it looks more like a standard arcade than the showcase kit mameroom offers.  Looking like the best I can do with a kit anyway.  I have found a couple local places in Chattanooga that sell used arcades, may see if I can get something with an ok condition cabinet (insides don't matter) that I can replace the monitor, control panel, and fix up the art/paint to my liking.  Hooray for my own vinyl equipment.  Probably will still go with the mameroom 4 player cp kit.  Wish the 4 way was in the middle of the CP though.

Good info on the monitor angle, found a few threads where some people have changed it to make it work better.

Now I need to start researching monitors, cause it doesn't look like I will get a plan for a big size LCD, still lusting after that 37" on ebay, but I really want to build this myself.

I'm actually looking for the same thing. I like the arcades r fun cabinets on eBay. I already have a 37 inch lcd and I'm in the process of building my CPU. I was hoping to find a cabinet kit or at least some plans so if nothing else I can build one.  Id much rather get a kit though. Does anyone know where I can get this?  Worst come to worst anyone know of any showcase cab kits for lcds.  Also to the poster above, you can make your own layout at mameroom.

Just keep it 2P.
Player 3 and 4 can use a BT XBox or PS controller.

My new stickied build a cabinet project thread may be of some use to you .  Not so much from a 4 - player cab design, just build methods, assembly etc.  It's a WIP but keep it in mind.

I will have to look into that.

I think I found my option, have a local repair shop that is going to sell me a stripped NBA Jam/NFL Blitz cab with refurbished monitor and artwork of my chose/design without control panel.  I will probably buy the control panel off mameroom and save myself from any woodworking issues.

I may start looking for some basic woodworking classes and build a from scratch cab next though.
