Mitsubishi XC-2930C RGB2 input revisited
« on: February 20, 2012, 03:17:05 pm »
I've always wanted to get the RGB2 input working on my XC-2930C (for a second console (original Xbox) and I also have a HDTV tuner with VGA output). The XC-2930C RGB2 is a DA-15 connector (like an old PC gameport). I tried a few adaptors to adapt the PC's DE-15 (VGA) connector to the Mitsubishi's DA-15 connector with no luck (I got no signal detection at all). I've searched online but could never find a schematic or reference to the RGB2 input until I just stumbled across this post:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19331442-Help-figuring-this-thingy-out-mitsubishi-xc3730c

Just below my chart I've pasted the specs from the link as well. The link refers to a xc-3725c manual - It's not the same model but I' hoping they are similar enough to give it a try.

First, am I correct that my PC vga sync output is TTL, not 0.3v sync? If yes it seems I can built my adaptor as such?:

DE-15 (from PC)               DA-15 (to XC-2930C RGB2)

Pin 1 - Red                            1 - Red 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω
Pin 2 - Green                        2 - Green 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω
Pin 3 - Blue                          3 - Blue 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω
Pin 6 - Red Return                9 - GND-(Red)
Pin 7 - Green Return            10 - GND-(Green)
Pin 8 - Blue Return               11 - GND-(Blue)
Pin 13 - Horizontal Sync      12 - H-COMP-SYNC TTL
Pin 14 - Vertical Sync           13 V-SYNC TTL

Quote from the above listed link:
RGB 2 input connector.
RGB 2 is for a personal computer use, especially RGB 2 can be compatible with IBM, PS/2, XGA, and MAC II by using MODE 2.
Two types of SYNC signals can be input to RGB 2. In case of 0.3V - SYNC level, connect with pin 4 and 5. In case of TTL level connect with pin 12 and 13.

Pinout for the RGB input is this one as stated by the manual for the xc-3725c

1 Red 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω 9 GND-(Red)
2 Green 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω 10 GND-(Green)
3 Blue 0.7 Vp-p 75Ω 11 GND-(Blue)
4 H/COMP-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p j75Ω 12 H-COMP-SYNC TTL
5 V-SYNC 0.3 Vp-p 75Ω 13 V-SYNC TTL
6 "RESERVE" N.C. 14 "RESERVE" N.C.
7 "RESERVE" N.C. 15 "RESERVE" N.C.
8 "RESERVE" N.C.

apparently this is the pinout for standard VGA/xvga

Pin 1 - Red
Pin 2 - Green
Pin 3 - Blue
Pin 4 - ID Bit
Pin 5 - N/C
Pin 6 - Red Return
Pin 7 - Green Return
Pin 8 - Blue Return
Pin 9 - No Pin
Pin 10 - Ground
Pin 11 - ID Bit
Pin 12 - ID Bit
Pin 13 - Horizontal Sync
Pin 14 - Vertical Sync
Pin 15 - N/C

Thanks in advance for any feedback

Yes, PCs output TTL sync.

Found a cable that can drive an old mac monitor, same connection type.
Male hd15 to female mac db15, I ordered also a gender changer (male/male db15)

If you read this and still want to know the results I'll let you know
