PC Monitor Question
« on: February 16, 2012, 09:53:48 pm »
I wanted to run my Sega Dreamcast off my mame cabinet for one game.... Street Fighter vs Capcom.  I was going to hack the controls directly into the cabinet controls....

My question is, if I use a PC monitor.... is this even possible (Sega doesnt connect to the pc or the pc monitor....)

The Dreamcast can output a VGA. Though you either need a Dreamcast VGA Cable (can be found at online shops) or you need to modify your DC with a direct VGA out.
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

Retrobit VGA Box. Ebay it. Mine worked great. You will need a Stereo jack splitter depending on your audio setup.

Ok awesome.... now I have my pc speakers plugged directly into the computer.... how do I get around this without actually installing real speakers?

If you go with the Retrobit VGA box and you are using a regular stereo jack 3.5mm to connect your speakers to your PC just get a stereo 3.5mm splitter. Also you may need some extensions.  Your setup is mostly just like mine. the VGA box requires a male input.

Get these and you'll be good to go, (site is for reference)
Splitter

Extensions

Idea, From your speakers which should be a Male 3.5mm to the Female end of splitter, then the extensions plug into your PC and the other in the Dreamcast.

You may need longer cables depending on your setup.

Sounds good.  Im assuming the audio plugs right into the Dreamcast.... havent taken it out and looked yet.

This VGA cable is about 40bucks cheaper than the Retrobit one you linked.... is there a difference?

Thanks for all the help.

Yeah it looks like the audio cable plugs right into the adapter.

I guess the only difference between the 2 is that the retrobit also has RCA out put for TV.
