Hantarex Monitor dead?
« on: February 07, 2012, 12:06:51 pm »
Hi folks,

Last week my Hantarex monitor in my Neo Geo Lordsvale cab starting cutting out on me. After giving it signal the tube would stop producing an image and the light in the neck of the tube would quickly die out. (sorry for the terminology, arcade monitors are still pretty scary to me). I took it in to a local TV repair guy who had repaired something on it before for me. After a few days of testing he's told me that the red gun in the the tube is kaput and that it's beyond repair. I'm sure he's probably right but could anyone else confirm that it is so before I start searching for a replacement?

Thanks

Jon.

im not an expert but i have heard people say if a light is not working anymore in the neck thing coming out of the tube, u might as well replace the tv/monitor, yea (because u say one of the three electron guns has gone (the red one), but they are inside the glass vacumm, so if u try to get inside there to fix, no more vacumm left!)

Thanks for the response, I'm going to double check with him that it's definately the gun that's gone but what you've said sounds likely.

Anyone out there know what monitors were used in Neo Geo Lordsvale cabs? I've a feeling the Hantarex MTC 9000 isn't the original one.

assuming you have done a check for dry solder etc (i expect your tech did that already), you could do the check yourself by running the monitor and then looking at the little lights inside at the end of the picture tube where the little separate circuit board is attached at the back of the monitor. you need 3 functioning glowing lights (electron guns) in there. if theres only two working, i dont think you can fix it.

ps. depending on what u plan to do with the cab, it might be cheaper to just shove any old tv in the cab instead of an arcade monitor (eg. u might find that tv's are free from your local recycle centre, or websites like freecycle...), or if u dont care about authenticity, u could just use a crt computer monitor. arcade monitors especially second hand ones are so old now that u will proably run into problems again in no time at all. the are literally 30 years old, and often heavily used.....

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and have a final check. When it first happened the neck of the tube was lighting up but then cutting out shortly after. I'll see if I can make out three lights though.

There's no way anything other than a working arcade monitor is going back in the cabinet. Luckily I live near Videotronics in Bradford and Arcade Warehouse in Castleford so am pretty well placed to try and source a good one.

Thanks for the help guys.
