Pacman scratch build
« on: February 01, 2012, 10:07:30 am »
Hey all, i'm choosing to part with my first cab, a find at the local good will drop off that turned out to be a Tiger Heli (still worked, monitor needed calibration) and refinished it into a Twin Cobra.  I have always wanted to build a scratch made pacman, and now I will.

However, I don't have any idea where to find the plans for the cabinet? I know there was a style attributed to that type of cab, just cant remember the name for the life of me.  Any direction would be supurb!  I will likely use old parts to keep the project as original as possible, I do have a budget so we will see how it turns out!

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
Nick

haha, thanks!

I felt like a complete noob after i simply searched for the information.  Now it's a matter of getting the parts together... but first selling my cab to get the funds.

Thanks again!

Been doing some research on side art and colors for the cab.

Looks like it will be a spray balm coating with Krylon sunflower yellow.. which isn't a problem, worked with spray paints is not terrible. But the side art is a PITA!

I found a couple locations for side art that is printed on vinyl that you apply as a sticker. I also found reproduction artwork someone did in Illustrator. I took a look at those files and can see that they do NOT look at all like the original artowork. The illustrator lines look sloppy and incorrect.

So now i'm faced with the challenge of finding someone with vinyl stencils. It seems to me that TwoBit owns the rights to pacman (acquired from namco a while ago).

Two sources of vinyl stickers are

and

http://www.phoenixarcade.com/art.htm#PACMAN_

I would rather have a 100% painted cabinet if i could help it. It would increase it's value.  Of course I found a 1981 Namco classic board that has ms pac, galaga and pac on it. It's not original... so does having original artwork really make that much of a difference?

Im torn now if whether or not it's worth it to do the project if I can't get the artwork I want.
