picture split in 3 ???

I have a sharp image 727 that the picture is split in 3. I installed a cap kit and that still didn't fix it. Has anyone seen this before?

Hi

The problem you have with the monitor is located in the vertical amplifier

may be you put a capacitor wrong check negative and positive on all capacitors
you replaced.

The problem was there before I did the cap kit. I was hoping a cap kit would fix it. Any ideas what else it could be?

Need a little more background info...

Is this a true arcade game PCB ? (Invasion the Abductors)
Is this some sort of MAME rig ?
Have you tried any other video input sources ?

Multiple images typically means the sync rate is wrong for that particular monitor. (but it's usually split horizontally)
i.e. trying to run a CGA game on a VGA monitor, etc, etc.

I think the SI727 is a medium resolution (EGA 25khz) monitor and Invasion the Abductors is a standard resolution (CGA 15khz) game.

The game is a true arcade pcb, invasion is cga. I did try 2 other cga game boards with the same results. It is definitly a monitor problem since I connected another monitor and the picture was fine. I think the si727 is a dual resolution monitor. The monitor was working with this cga board, nothing has been changed since the last time it was turned on. I installed a cap kit hoping it would fix it but no luck.

What make/model was the other monitor that you tried? (the one that looked fine with this game)

I'm not super familiar with the SI727.... so hard for me to get specific on anything about it.

If it is dual resolution, see if there is a way to switch it. I doubt it's auto switching.
EDIT: Found a pic I think would be what you have. Does yours have a "DS" label anywhere where it identified as a SI-727?

And of course it could very well be a problem in the vertical amplification circuit like JBARAHONA55 mentioned.
Maybe not an electrolytic cap, but possibly something else.

That's what is throwing me off a bit is that it has a multiple image "vertically" versus the usual wrong sync multiple image "horizontally".
But I wanted to absolutely rule out a sync issue anyways.

The other monitor I tested was a best tech cga. I not sure of the model number. The si 727 does have a DS after it. That picture you found is the chassis. I switched the resolution but that didn't help. It doesn't look like a sync problem. I guess it may be in the vertical amplification circuit. I have not been able to find a schematic for it yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find that schematic?
