NES Box Scans - goodtools USA set
« on: September 20, 2003, 08:39:09 am »
I have managed to get most of the USA NES box art off of the net and rename them to Goodtools names to use with frontends (namely CAVE's latest Mamewah Skins!).

There are box scans for 768 out of the 855 USA Nes games available.  The scans are 200x275 resolution in jpg format.  12MB rar file.

Grab them HERE.

I also have 246 out of 297 Sega Master System box scans renamed and ready to go, but unfortunately I ran out of webspace AGAIN! LOL.  I'll try and organise some more space and have them available soon.

I'm now after some Nintendo64 and SNES box art, so if anyone knows of some goods sites to grab some decent quality scans of these, please PM me.

Stuzza,

Once again, great work with the downloads--the NES box art is awesome.  Cant wait for the SMS ones as well--and then the Nintendo 64 and SNES.  Keep up the great work.  If I run across any good sites, I will let you know.  Just want to encourage you to keep the website growing!!--wouldnt it be great to have all the box art and cart pics available for download to go with Cave's and yours skins.  Hope Cave keeps the skins coming and you can keep the extras to match coming.
Awesome work!  It is appreciated.

Ebay?  Never thought of looking there!  Depends on the quality of the scans people make available though.  I'd like to try and get the best quality scans if i can first.  If i then can't find any other scans for a particular title, then I guess I'll use whatever I can get!

stuzza,

how did you come up with that 855 number?  As an avid Nintendo collector with over 600 of the actual carts (and not ROM dumps) I can tell you that the actual number is closer to 770.

For actual counts and lists, with physical confirmation, nothing beats www.digitpress.com

Stuzza,

thanks for posting those scans.. I'm not a ROM collector, and hence don't understand the naming convention used, but why are some games listed multiple times, but many others missing from the list completly?

e.g.

Jaws (U) [!].jpg
Jaws (U) [a1].jpg
Jaws (U) [a2].jpg

Yet there is only 1 JAWS cart.. there are no different revisions of it.

While a common game like 1942 by Capcom is completely missing?  Do ROM collectors follow different rules than actual cart collectors such as my self?

Thanks for your time.

The scans I renamed were for the "USA" set of NES roms which you get by using goodtools with the "dirs" command.  There are multiple scans of the same image for the various alternates eg. [a1], [a2]  so that a box scan will also show for these.  This is needed as there is no dat file available for consoles which frontend developers can use so that only one screenshot or box scan is needed for all versions of a game.  Maybe in the future someone will create some dat files with info on all the nes and sega consoles so that only one artwork is needed.

Games that are missing from the set available for download are either not from the USA set (ie. 1942), or I havn't found box art for them yet.  According to Goodtools, the 1942 NES roms were:

1942 (JU) [b1][o1]
1942 (JU) [o1]
1942 (JU) [o2]
1942 (JU) [o3]
1942 (JU) [o4]
1942 (JU) [p1]
1942 (JU)
1942 (PC10)

So when you sort an entire NES romset by country, the (JU) will go in the World (I think?) directory as opposed to the USA directory.

You'll notice on the site I specify that the download contains box scans for 768 out of the possible 855 USA nes roms.  So if you have any of the missing ones, feel free to send them to me!  ;)

I've now finished the Nintendo 64 box scans but have nowhere to store them.  If anyone has a spare 22MB webspace where I can host the Master system and N64 box scans, can you please get in touch.  I've already got 2 free webspace accounts going and don't really want to setup a 3rd as it's getting to hard to manage already!
