Author Topic: Design My Cabinet Contest - 10/24/11 Ond's Xenolix Cabinet Wins! (Read 11700 times)

Well, I am having the itch to build myself a cabinet since my last project got scrapped. I was given some 1/2 inch MDF, and I want to build a portable bartop cabinet, (perhaps a Bender ripoff?) and I will end up buying a clearance laptop for the cabinet. I do want a horizontal layout because this will be more than MAME, it will run all the classic consoles too. Where you guys come into play is that I want you guys to design it because I am at a loss as to what I want. Whichever design I like the best I will build, and in the artwork, the designer will get his/her credit. Let the designing begin!

Just a thought for any budding designers out there... ...two simple words: Bartop Viewlix.

I am not big into fighting games but a bartop viewlix if done properly would come out very nicely! (Don't think of that as an endorsement to design only that)

I had an idea to make a chopped down version of the Tecmo Urban cabinet:

I don't have the planes or anything, but I think the original cabinet use a 29" or 25" monitor.

Man, if Ond wins, I'm really going to have to step up the build

. let's say all designs to be in by October 18.i will be on a 12+ hour car ride the 19th, and after I get a winner, I can finalize details and maybe layout some artwork on the road trip.

Nice attempt at outdesigning the amazing Urkelcade, Ond. It really comes close, but people that try to improve upon true perfection often find they fall slightly short.

Well, Ond won the contest with his Xenolix cabinet. I never did work on it when I said I was going to this past week, but I finally opened the attachment he sent me and will be fitting his CAD drawings as needed. Construction is going to be heavily reliant upon what laptop I gut for this, so I will be purchasing one shortly so that I can base everything else on that. I will note that there will be at least a few minor design changes in this, some but not include the following: additional port on the side for a second control panel for 2 player fun, a second ball-top joystick for Robotron fun, handle on the top, and more surprises that will be detailed later in the build.

Very nice design, It's the kind of look I was going for when I built mine. I maybe should of got you onboard for 'TTA Games' as it took me about 2 months to come up with mine!! But I see a resemblence with the fan grills, just need a row of smaller ones at the bottom

That cab is a sleeper, it's in the collective BYOAC zeitgeist now. Just wait, they'll start popping up. Somebody will probably be at a bowling alley and see one on the bar. Another case of awesome custom arcade art from here showing up in commercial products.

It will probably be a cross over cab that you can either pay a quarter to play a game or it gives you a quarter to watch an episode of Family Matters.

I have plans on building this once the weather turns back warm some. I had some unexpected projects come up than ran into cold weather and now it is just too darn cold to build. I promise I will build this as soon as I can!
