Ikaruga....very big
« on: September 18, 2003, 09:46:41 pm »
I got Ikaruga for my gamecube from the wife for my birthday.  As many of you know the game is spectacular, but as I was going through the menus I noticed that there is an option for playing on a vertical monitor.  My 40" widescreen TV won't easily rotate onto it's side but it got me thinking...

I went to work and grabbed a Dell 3200mp projector and brought that home, hooked it up to my Gamecube, propped the thing up on its side and voila...!

Ikaruga on a 70" or so vertical screen.  It was amazing.  We played it all weekend before I had to take the projector back.  Good stuff.

Yeah...now that you mention it I'm kind of ashamed of myself.  I'll have to try and get the projector again and snap a pic for you'all.  It was rad.

If you like that try Mars Matrix in MAME.  Another good shooter.

Ok, you MUST download Raine, and get Guwange and DoDonpachi, you will crap your pants.  Mars Matrix and Giga Wing are also great games.

DonPachi (1995) is in MAME.  Not DoDonPachi, but it's prequel I guess.

Weird thing is, in MAME32 is is listed as a clone under Donkey Kong Junior. WTH?!  ???

DoDonpachi (International) is in Raine though and its the sequel to Donpachi, they're both amazing games but I like DoDonpachi better, actually the PS2 version, the newest DoDonpachi game is the best so far, its f***ing amazing, great graphics, awesome gameplay, very cool bullet patterns, everything good like that, AND it comes with a DVD that has people beating every level of DoDonpachi without dying, plus a guy flips the combo meter with some weird trick.  If you could ever get ahold of a chipped Saturn you could download Radiant Silver Gun, the semi-prequel to Ikaruga, but its not really cause Treasure never makes sequels.  It's supposed to be damn amazing, but to buy the real thing would cost you a fortune, and I had so many chances too when it was $50 when I was a teenager... damn damn damn....  anyways...

i am actually fortunate to have that one.. musta played it more than i played any other game for any system. possibly the best shooter game ever made, imho.sadly i don't have the original case and manual for it, or i could earn a fortune :-[.  i dunno why treasure doesnt make more games, w/ this, ikaruga and gunstar heroes being the only i can think of.
It's all about the Pentiums

Another good Treasure game for the dreamcast is Bangai-O, its pretty hard to find now a days, but I'm sure you could get it on ebay for cheap.  Its hellllllla fun, your this little spaceship that can fire 8-ways, which you control kinda like robotron, left stick moves, right buttons shoot different directions.  It's very repetitive, but VERY addictive and fun.

Okay...it's time to redeem myself.  The pictures don't do it justice.  The image on my wall is actually really crisp.  My digital camera just doesn't have a shutter speed fast enough to freeze all the action.  At any rate, prepare to drool.
