Does running bootup screen hurt monitor?
« on: September 18, 2003, 10:17:59 am »
Curently I have an arcade monitor running advmame and arcadeos--Whenever I boot up the screen flickers until the 15khz drivers are loaded in--Is this damaging the monitor in any way?  Should I wait until the arcadeos music plays before turning on the monitor?

Thx

you should wait until it starts the 15khz driver, it will probobly kill the monitor if you keep it on while you do 31khz :-\

I agree. I would get one of Ultramarcs fine products. I suggest the JPAC. It only allows a 15 khz signal to be sent to the moitor, PLUS the controls won't ghost on you.

I actually have a fully up and running mame cab that I'm just in the process of upgrading so I have all that stuff--you're right JPAC is a cool product--I was just curious if my typical boot up routine was shortening the life of the display.

Yes, it can hurt the monitor.  It is safest to wait until you know there is a 15Khz signal, and not a 31Khz signal being sent.

If you would like to show your DOS screens, boot screens, and even be able to load windows on your arcade monitor, you might consider an ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc.com .  This card is designed to output 15Khz by default, and work without needing AdvanceMAME much.

Hey guys, does this apply to tv's too?  My tv does the same think i think.  the picture kinda rolls until it gets to the windows boot screen.  Is that hurting the tv as well?
