MAME Joystick ID changes
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:43:38 pm »
On my bar top I have a U360 and 8 buttons on the control panel that are recognized by MAME as JOY1. All  of my games are set up for this to be the player one controls. I also have a USB gamepad that I'd like to use as an optional player two control. The problem is that when I plug in the gamepad MAME sees it as JOY1 and the U360 becomes JOY2  which screws up all my mappings.

I want the U360, which is always connected, the permanently be JOY1 and the optional gamepad to be JOY2 when it is connected. Is there any way to get MAME to do this? I'm using MAME 0.106 on XP.

Thanks.

Its an ongoing problem.  I dont recall seeing a solution but I may have missed it.

The easiest thing to do is keep the gamepad plugged in at all times.  Is that an option?

99.9% of my playing is single player. I would be nice to have an option to plug in a controller for an occasional two player game, but if it means leaving the controller plugged in I'd probably just skip it.

Guess it's time to start on my 2-player upright cabinet... ;)
