So I helped a kid edit a college paper, and in gratitude he gave me an old PC and an LG 19in 4:3 monitor. Both were non-working. The PC just needed a HD reformat, but the LCD wouldn't power up. I did some research and found that this monitor had some cap issues. I decided to open it up, and sure enough, one cap was bulging. I went to Fry's Electronics, bought a replacement cap, did my first ever de-solder job on a board, replaced the cap, soldered, and voila! A nice working 19in LCD. Total cost: $2.
