Please look at my marquee and control panels design
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:39:50 pm »
I've just designed my first peice of artwork. Well I didn't really design it, I just modified the Robotron marquee. I've attached the Illustrator file and a JPEG. Please take a look and tell me what you think. Does the 2012 numbers look ok? I didn't really know what I was doing with Illustrator so there is lots of extra shapes, anchor points etc that are not needed, will this be a problem? It looks ok to me, but will it print out ok?

Can anybody recomend a good printing service for marquees? Also I'm going to have a cpo to be printed after I have designed it. I live in the UK.

Many thanks.

I like it! :applaud:  Everything looks good to me.  Game on Grafix, Emdkay and Basement Arcade Grafx all print marquees - take your pick, all seem to have good feedback.  You can find their posts with a board search.  Just remember that most of these guys do printing as a side job, so be patient. ;)  I'm sure whoever you pick can take a look at your Illustrator file for problems.

Ok, thanks John. Does the illustrator file loook ok to you? Maybe you can quote me a price when I have finished the rest of the artwork.

Oops!  Sorry John, I did not realize that.  I do like the things you've shown here, though.  I may be ordering some vinyl self stick artwork from you in a few weeks.

Looks great, except I'm confused about the 2 dots on the end. Is it an equal sign or is it a colon? Whats 2012? I assume it's next year, is that when you plan on finishing or something?

Also, your name is a nice touch, but as an option maybe it can say
Ian Smith presents
Ian Smith Production Presents

Or something like that. Good work

Thanks for the feedback guys. The artwork was modified from the Robotron marquee design. I was also a bit confused about the colon and wasn't sure weather to keep it or not, but it was in the original Robotron marquee so I decided to keep it.

Also the date 2084 was in the Robotron design. I tried to remove it, but it looked too bare so I changed it to the year I might finish the cab (actually I will probably finish this year but I didn't think 2011 looked as good).

As for my name, that originally said Williams in the Robotron version so I just changed it to my name, but actually Ian Smith presents sounds like a good idea, what does everybody else think?

My design isn't set in stone yet so I can change any of these things if you guys think that things would look better different. Please let me know, it's hard to critisize your own work.

I agree, Ian Smith Presents sounds like a good option.

If it were mine, I would get rid of the colon and extend the yellow lines so both sides are equal.

Keep up the good work.

I'm taking on board what you are all saying, and I agree. I've come up with 2 slightly changed versions, please tell me which you prefer:

Definitely 4 (the one WITH your name).

Good job. (I obviously like the idea of using cool original art and modifying it to make it uniquely yours.) You did this one well.

Ok it seems like version 4 is the popular one so I'm gonna go with that. I just designed the overlay for the main control panel and pull out trackball panel, again keeping with the Robotron theme. Please tell me what you think.
