Some AtomicFE questions
« on: November 19, 2011, 05:49:37 am »
I've used AtomicFE a few times when building cabinets but I haven't started a new build for some time and may just of forgotten something stupid. I'm using the latest version v020 at the moment. I have a set up with a MAME screen, a jukebox screen and an external program screen that just calls an arcade program I've written. The main menu screen just switches between these.

  • Video snap problem :
I don't use video snaps for MAME but it keeps asking for a directory for them. I've just told it to look in my main snap directory but now I just get a warning that there are no videos there. I don't think it's causing issues but can I turn off video snaps?
  • Favourite list problem :
Everything works ok until I enable a favourites list on the MAME screen. At this point it then refuses to play any of my MAME games. The screen goes black for anything between 1 sec and 10 secs and then it returns without an error to the AtomicFE game list. Is there a warning log kept anywhere? Anyone know what might be happening. Oddly I can get the games to work by running directly through mame.exe.
  • Version problem :
Some MAME programs just won't run. I've read that some versions of MAME require different roms for the same game - is this true?
  • Jukebox problems :
AtomicFE has a jukebox which works ok but is it possible to:
    • show mp3 information rather than file names?
    • to always add songs to the current play list and play that rather than have separate buttons to play, to add and yet another to play the list.
    • can I list more songs on screen at the same time? I'm currently using the default layout (for games) and this means I have a snap showing at the side of the screen which isn't used and the large font means only 12 or so songs show at once. I'm not keen and on having to devote yet more time on learning the layout editor to do something which loads of others must already have done.

Should I be using AtomicFE at all? I just need an FE that is :
  • easy to use
  • easy to set up
  • calls MAME games
  • runs a jukebox with a queuing system
  • can call my own java application
  • can run a program/game on startup

Jukebox issues - I've solved most of my juke box issues by using DW Jukebox. This is a dedicated bit of software and suits my needs better. It still shows the file names rather than the MP3 info but I'm hoping to work out what I've done wrong. I'll recommend this program though as it was very easy to set up.

AtomicFE / mame issues - it seems it's treating any new screen as a music list rather than a game list. My game screen properties showed MP3 folder which is obviously wrong. I deleted the screen and created a new games screen but it's still showing MP3 folder in the properties and it isn't asking for the mame emulator address  I've been through all the menus etc and haven't seen anything to alter this. I'm a bit stuck.
