"Nor was it admiration for a better man than me. I did admire him, but I didn't think he was a better man. Besides, I've executed better men than me with a small pistol."
Never seen this movie before. Thought I should since my sister is named after Julie Christies character. I didn't really know what to expect, and when it comes to love and romance I'm a big cynic for the real thing. But I have to say, some dust or something musta got in my eyes near the end. This is one awesome epic! It's got lots of everything- actors, scenery, battles. There's a scene where a train is going through a village that has been razed. They didn't use matt backgrounds, oh no. They built a razed village! Absolutely the only thing I didn't like was the overture at the beginning, which was 5 minutes with just a static screen. C'mon, even in 1965 this is goofy! Surely just some general street scene while the overture is playing would be nice. The music is great and of course 'Laras theme' is in the general social consciousness. The composer was Maurice Jarre, who's son Jean Michel Jarre went on to greatness himself.
Excellent acting all around with Omar Sharif, Alec Guiness, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin and Rod Steiger.
Despite the goofy overture, this is a 5/5 (",)
