Arachnid Super 6 Problem - Unable to solve
« on: November 02, 2011, 10:45:52 am »
I recently bought "somewhat working" Arachnid Super 6 dart board (1st/original version). The problem is the machine continues to freeze up on me. I replaced the ram, and it seemed to help for a while - about 1 month. After opening up the machine to show a friend the board, monitor, etc, the problem came back in full force.

I believe that the "garbage" on the screen will help me to find a solution. Hopefully someone can help.

rom based boards sometimes have a scratch ram chip used to dump the rom into to perform the work in. maybe it's going bad on you.

it could be a voltage problem. check the voltage (VCC) at various chips to be sure it's not low. wiggling wires sometimes will have the voltage go all over. pull all the plugs and shove them back in. sometimes that's enough to clean off the contacts to get a good connection again.

Check these on the power supply circuit board attached to the giant capacitor:

Look for cold solder joints especially at the connector header pins.

Check the +5 volts to see if it's too high.

Replace capacitors C3 and C8. Both are .33 uf @ 100 volts mylar types. These fail from the heat of the two large voltage regulators getting to them over the years. These can cause gameboard lockups.

The "garbage" you see on the attract mode screens are because the battery backed ram chip has gone bad. The battery inside the chip is dead and the chips need to be replaced.
