Routing laminate

Hey guys,

I have a cocktail cab (taito space invaders) that I'm "restoring" and it's going ok.

I routed out the screen hole with a 45 degree chamfer bit to act as a monitor bezel. The top has some minor damage which I repaired, but even after this, I painted it and it looked like a bag of balls.

So, I was going to laminate it. I have some laminate and am comfortable with applying it etc.

My question is, once I have applied it, can I re-route out the screen bezel using the same 45 degree chamfer, or is it not suitable for laminate?

use a 45 degree laminate router bit

Since you have already cut your 45 and then going to apply laminate you might get away with your existing 45 degree bit.  It probably has a greater cutting capacity then a 45 laminate cutter that can only do a 1/4 inch.  The only problem might be chipping of the laminate due to the much larger bit.   I would suggest using a piece of scrap with the 45 already cut, apply laminate and then test trim the laminate to see if your bit will trim the laminate without chipping.
