Mame analog control settings for games
« on: October 27, 2011, 12:10:03 am »
So does everyone use the default settings or is there a page someone made with some more favorable settings?  What are your settings?  Thx :notworthy:

There are too many variables to have preferred settings that work for everyone.

Settings would be different for whatever type/model/brand of analogue input device you are using (joystick, steering wheel, flight stick, thumbsticks, etc)

Not sure what type of device you're asking about.
There are some comments about settings for pc steering wheels in the thread linked in my sig.

guess im talking about spinners and trackballs :)  Arkanoid is being finiky right now and looks jagged when moving left and right.

Good news.  With those you CAN find the correct sensitivity setting for them if you know the resolution of your encoder:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Spinner_Turn_Count

Some more pointers:
Only the "Sensitivity" setting has any effect on your spinner.
"Digital Speed"(or anything that begins with "Digital") only affects how key presses respond when substituted for a real spinner.

One big mistake newbs make is to map "Dial Inc" and "Dial Dec" to the spinner.
Again, those are only for key presses.  They shouldn't be mapped to anything.
Mapping both the axis and the Inc/Dec kinda screws things up and results in poor control.

I have the apache push/pull spinner.  I cant seem to find the resolution for this spinner

Well i realized that i mapped  "Dial Inc" and "Dial Dec" to the spinner.  So i now have them at "nothing".  Boy is it ever smooth now! But....i gotta spin it really hard just to get it across the screen in arkanoid.

Increase sensitivity.  Don't be afraid to crank it up to 200.
If you don't know the resolution of your spinner, there's no shortcut.
Just have to make big adjustments, play, try more adjustment, play, fine tune, play, repeat.....

Thank you for help

The spinner is 2 1/2" diameter with 48 teeth.  That is all i could find.

And cranking it to 125 was my sweet spot :applaud:
