NES Emulation w/Mala?
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:37:33 am »
I've been working for a few days on getting my Mala to be able to utilize some NES roms along with the MAME roms it already runs. I've messed with FXEUX and MESS some but haven't gotten either to work the way I want them. As a bit of background, I build the cabinet, set up MAME (and compiled it), set up MALA, and done a lot of tweaks and things on my own but this is making me feel like I'm incompetent! I've tried googling, searching forums, etc but I'm at a loss still.

I get FCEUX to work fine on it's own but I can't seem to get it to work with MALA. On the MALA side I need to know how to generate a game list that MALA can read to launch FCEUX games. Any ideas?

With MESS I've slowly dwindled my errors down to a few missing files that I'm hoping to solve eventually but I was wondering how much luck people have had with MALA and MESS before I spend even more time wanting to kill this machine :)

Or, if anyone has ideas for another emulator that easily integrates with MALA?

You can also try VirtuaNES.

I personally like FCE, and am pretty sure I have it working with Mala. Just starting with the basics, did you double check the directory for the roms is correct on your setup, and is the file type it is set to look for .NES (or .Zip if they are compressed)? Also refresh the game list after done. If you are using the Mala Tree, try turning it off for testing purposes. It might be an issue with your Mala tree setup rather than the emulator.

Probably would have better luck posting in the MaLa forum, but I have FCEUX and Nestopia both working under MaLa. I'll try to rember to look at my command line and what not when I get home. But given I'm at happy hour right now, I make no promises on remembering.
