VGA Card Questions/Advice
« on: October 19, 2011, 12:45:16 pm »
I currently have a smaller size single player Mame Cabinet that I constructed and am using a 19" LCD arcade monitor in it and everything displays fine.  I am in the process of building a much larger multiplayer cabinet and am going to be using a 24.8" Flat CRT Tri Sync from Betsons, my question is given that I will be using this moniter vs an LCD as I am in the smaller cab do I need to be concerned about adding a new graphics card to my cpu like the Ultimarc one?  I have read through the forum and cant quite figure out the pros/cons to using this card versus just plugging in my tower as I am currently doing in my smaller cabinet, is it more a matter of game resolution for those that are "purists" or is there a risk of damage to the monitor if a card change isnt made.  Any advice is appreciated!

Steve

i'd look at the groovymame project. it works really well on the tri-mode monitors. along with esentially any normal ATI card there are some modified drivers that let it generate exact mode lines for all the games to run them at their native resolutions without having to re-center the display.

there's a subforum for it:
