this is the part where we buy it, scan it, and then post it all over the internet for everyone to download for free.

It's copy written so have at it if you like taking the chance of getting sued. I think it's pathetic when people like you think that  someone spending years writing something should just give it away for free. I guess you go to your job and work for free right? I paid like $800 years ago for Randy Fromm's tapes and books. Are you telling me you can't spend $9.95 for a flowchart? Your pathetic! Some people have to make a living in this industry. I have this flowchart and fix most of my U5000 monitors with it. I charge $50 an hour so a $9.95 investment seems pretty small. I aplogize for trying to help!

i have about 10 - u5000 chassis (as well as a number of k7000 and 9200 chassis) in a huge stack shelf in the corner of the shop. it's not like we can't fix them, people aren't playing the 15k games they came from anymore. why would we spend $100 to fix them (man hour of pay plus parts... perhaps i send them to you to fix since your cheaper) to fix a game that in it's remaining lifetime may not even recoup the $100 it cost to fix it. hence the pile.

tell you what, when i get sick of looking at these 50 some-odd chassis i'll send them to you and YOU can flowchart fix them.

I know two things:

1. The image for this item on ebay is hilarious (attached below).

2. Sure seems like this should be in Buy/Sell/Trade with a big FA in front of it.

I know one additional thing:

$50 an hour? Holy crap, that is why I use old TVs in my cabs!  ;D Good work if you can get it though!
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

when i first saw the ebay ad, it had a generic "insert photo here" type placemark... then after my post it had...uhm ... that. i was going to post it and applaud the super-duper-extreme-copyright-gonna-sue-your-ass-of-if-you-look-at-it, but i'm lazy.... also i live in canada and canadians are also lazy... and also where the government seems to turn a blind eye to copyright issues cause the government likes getting their weekly fix of "true blood" from torrents instead of paying for HBO.

Just $50 an hour to fix U-5000s?

Wanna tackle:
one that only works in 25k mode
one that looses focus in different areas on the screen depending on the focus voltage (not CRT or flyback problem)
one that has come back from Atlas Dist. twice, still dead, low frequency whine in 15k mode, no picture

This is not quite a flow chart, but it's a great start: http://www.wellsgardner.com/pdf/Repair/U5000_25_inch.pdf

I still get these monitors in to fix and $50 an hour is cheap. If you want to send me your pile to fix I would be more than happy to take your money. There are a ton of these monitors out there in the home market and I hate to break this to you but in locations as well. If it's not for you that's fine, but you don't have to be a jackass about the whole thing or a thief. Simply don't buy it. The "Copyright Protect" splattered all over the flowchart is a bit much I will give you that. But, you are EXACTLY the reason that honest men have to go to such lengths with things. There isn't a Flowchart on the planet that is going to fix every problem. Like you some of these monitor boards just get tossed on a pile. But, I have managed to fix the majority of them by using nothing other than this flowchart. It is a valuable tool at a very low cost.

$50 per hour is a good price for a monitor repair,it's about the same I charge
techs in the amusement industry are treated like idiots-you call out a plumber or electrician and see what hourly rate you pay
Someone who takes the time and effort to write a repair guide using their skills has every right to charge for that knowledge

perhaps some of the people moaning about it here will offer their day job services for nothing-seriously doubt it

I did today.

The u5000s with screwy problems (all of them :-\)are piling up around here.

I'll try it and report back.
