Need help removing paper from NOS bezel!
« on: October 10, 2011, 09:13:56 pm »
Hi all, Does anyone have any tips on removing the protective paper coating from an old plexiglass bezel?  I can only get the stuff to peel in very tiny strips.   I googled it but a lot of the ideas suggest some goo gone or other stripping agent.  I don't want to destroy the finish or the artwork on the other side!  Thanks

yes, i used thinner gel not the liquid. The gel doesn't run and you can leave it there for 5 minutes then scrape with a spackle. I've done it before and didnt damage anything. Good luck.

Thanks! I ended up using denatured alcohol.  I SOAKED the paper let it sit for 5 minutes or so and it peeled right off with no harm to the painted artwork on the other side!

careful denatured alcohol WILL attack some silkscreened inks.
Id recomend NAptha for something like this in the future.

Wow, guess I got lucky this time!  Thanks for the tip I'll be sure to use that next time! Where can you get Naptha?  Can you pick it up at a Home Depot or Lowes?
