AVGA3000 configuration issue
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:56:34 pm »
Hey Everyone,

I am having some trouble getting my arcade monitor working with my new Arcadevga PCIx card.

First here is my configuration:

Verticle monitor - Hantarex mtc-9000
ArcadeVGA PCIx card
Jpac
windows XP
Mala frontend

The issue that I having is that in windows and the mala frontend I was getting 2 screen images on the screen that were rotated the wrong way and unreadable and I couldnt get it to stabalize.
So I told MALA to rotate and now the words are going the right direction but I still have 2 screen images one above the other and it is scrunched badly and unstable.

Interesting thing is that when I hit the button to launch a game the game started and I was able to adjust my monitor very easily and lock in a good Donkey Kong image all though it was rotated 90deg to the right. but looked fantastic compared to windows and the MALA FE. So I connected my LCD monitor to other output on the AVGA and edited MAME INI and told it to rotate. so now the games look great but the frontend is unusable due to the double image.

I have tried a bunch of different resolutions using the AVGA res util but not really sure what resolution I should set it to so right now its set on one of the lower resolutions  256x224 I think.

If someone could point me in the right direction It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -Slug54

OK I am making some progress.
I set the resolution to 256x254 using the avga utility and removed the jumper from the 31khz position and left the jumper on the 15khz position and re-booted with the LCD monitor that I was using to change the configuration disconnected.
This gives me a windows image that was easily stabilized and looked clear the MALA game list looked "better" and was definitely more readable and the games looked good but definitely are going to need some adjustment to fit the screen.

So now I have a few more questions...

1 - What resolution should I be setting so that the frontend game list looks the best and fills the screen.

2 - Is there a certain layout or MALA setting that I should be using to get the most out of this arcade monitor.

3 - what is the best way to do the screen adjustments for the frontend and the games,Like on my pacman  machine when it shows the test grid If you flip the test switch off and back on it locks the alignment grid on the screen so that you can adjust it.
