Arcade VGA - SYNC OK does NOT light
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:05:34 pm »
I recently swapped out my old geforce (which had some problems with soft15khz) for an arcade VGA AGP I bought off of ebay. After removing the soft15khz, geforce drivers, etc, I installed the card and booted up, but see absolutely no activity on my arcade monitor, just a black screen. This is not just in windows, but i see no post/bios screen either. I also of course can't connect it to my CRT for diagnosis.  When the PC boots up, I hear the POST test beeps correctly (no long graphics issue beeps and errors), and I hear the drives whirring and slowing down as XP loads.

This arcadeVGA is in a winxp machine with a JPAC connector to my arcade machine, which is a MK2 cabinet. I know that my arcade monitor/jpac/pc is fine (i see the bios screen with the geforce 6800 plugged in), so it seems the problems have something to do with the card, but I can't really be sure (since the machine still seems to be booting fine, just with no signal output to the monitor).

Does anyone have any clue why this might be occurring? I thought things would pretty much "just work" once I had the JPAC and arcadevga plugged in. Is there something i'm missing here? Also, is there any possible way for my to diagnose this issue? I can't find any info on ultimarc site now (it's all pcie info). With no screen signal I have nothing to go on. Thanks in advance.

OK, Followup. I'm still not sure what's wrong, but I've found a new piece of the puzzle:

on JPAC the "sync in" and "sync ok" LED both light up with my geforce6800. On the otherhand, with arcadeVGA, the SYNC IN led lights up, but the SYNC OK does NOT light.

Any ideas of why i would be out of sync when this is an arcade vga?

i can't help you, but i also bought an arcadevga from ebay and it doesn't work at all ( black screen on both ports )
and it turned out to be a fake card.
maybe yours is fake too?

Yep, it turns out mine is a fake card from an ebay scammer. Sorry to hear they got you too.

I emailed Andy yesterday and after sending him a pic of the card he confirmed it. Watch out folks.

Thanks to Andy for the support and checking things out for me.

Wow - I wish I'd read this sooner. I ordered one of these back in September, and just got around to hooking it up today. Same story - no image output at all, just a dead AGP card with counterfeit stickers put on it.

If you see anyone based in Spain selling these in bulk on eBay, avoid them!

Now I've got to find a real one somewhere...

well, ultimarc doesn't have agp versions anymore, so i had to look on ebay.
in the end i got a total refund from the guy i bought it from.
he also feeled scammed cause he bought those cards from china.

i myself bought myself a new motherboard, processor and ordered one from andy
and everything works very good

Right as this is a problem then we need a sticky thread with how to identify the culprit cards if possible to stop people wasting their money :soapbox:

Pictures and comparisons would be good from those that have the bad cards
On the other side of the screen, it all looks so easy...
