mame loooooong loading?

Does anyone have noticed this, im using hyperspin with mame 143 on a pentium D 3.0 machine under xp32 with 1gb ddr2 ram.So when i turn on my machine, i select a game ,press enter and it takes like 2 minutes to load the game, after that if i chose any game, it loads the game right away, so the problem always happens only at the first game,any ideas or help? thanks.

Are you shelling into your FE? What if you launch your FE from the desktop and run a game does it take longer the first time then? Have you tried waiting longer before loading the first game to make sure your PC isn't still in the startup process? What happens when you run MAME outside the FE?

yes, im using quicksheller to shell hyperspin, i have done several tests and here are the results:
runing mame by itself at startup or via a batch file at startup, it loads the game right away.
runin hyperspin unshelled at startup or any given time, takes about a minute or two to load the first game and after that , all games load just fine.
so it looks like a hyperspin issue, i would take this to the hyperspin forum but if anyone here can help,ill keep my eye on both forums, thanks.

 if i turn on the computer, leave the pc along for one hour or more, chose my first game and still happens.

Having the same issue, but launching mame from advancemenu.  Seemed to start after an upgrade to xp sp3.  My guess is DirectX was upgraded.

For me I just see an hourglass indefinitely when launching the first time, after I kill it, subsequent launches are fine.
