Just got a pacman-does it need a cap kit?
« on: September 20, 2011, 09:03:01 pm »
I got a pacman with a great looking monitor in it.  No burn.  On the bottom right of the screen the line of the maze starts to drop.  See pic.  Is it just an adjustment, or maybe a cap kit?

Thanks,
Southpaw

Adjusting the H freq/hold *may* clear up the slight fold, but its likely in need of a recap.

The monitor is an eletrohome.  So I played with the adjustments and it looks a little better.  What is the B+ adjustment?  How long does a monitor last?  How long before a cap kit is needed?  This Pacman is so clean.  Never seen an arcade and has 36 credits on it.  I really want to leave the monitor in but I also like a perfect picture.

Thanks for the help,
Southpaw

Don't touch the B+ adj.

A pacman with 36 credits on the meter? I don't see that happenin'. The meter must have quit workin' early on.....

Cap it. It's better for your monitor in the long run.

The symptoms that caps can help with range from various things:
- won't power up
- won't sync
- won't lock the holds
- waviness
- colors faded
- vertical collapse
- etc...

You'll have to find out what exact chassis you have connected to that tube. If it's an Electrohome, it's most likely a G07-CBO. Cap kits for these are plentiful, can easily be found at all the usual arcade part vendors. Just make sure exactly what model it is.

Thanks for the help with the monitor.  As far as the counter goes, it looks like it has been on free play it's whole life.  It is a cocktail cab and still has the glass top with the silk screen graphics in great shape.  I haven't seen that before.  This one looks like it's been in a time capsule.  Even the plexi by the joystick is not burnt from the light behind it.
