Connect PC to Medium Res Arcade Monitor
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:29:58 pm »
Hi, I'm just trying to find out a few things before I take the plunge and buy a cabinet to use for a Nebula SM2 Emu / MAME project.

It's a non-jamma cab with a medium resolution monitor. The plan is to use a Soft 15khz supported graphics card (Radeon HD 4650) with the Soft-15 software.

Is it a VGA breakout cable i need to connect the Graphics card to the Arcade monitor?

Thanks.

most people just wire up their own adapter, since lots of monitors have slightly different RGB connectors.

The first order of business here is to find out the manufacturer and the model number of that monitor and report back here.  If you can't find that then it will be very helpful to take a picture of the video connector on the chassis (pcb) on the underside of the monitor.

For a medium res, you need a card that can output a 25Khz (EGA) signal unless the monitor is dual res.

To be honest that's not a great monitor for emulation.  There are only a handful of medium resolution games (512x384 roughly).  The 99.9% of other games will have to be scaled which probably won't look great.  You would also need to use soft15khz and remove all the non 25khz resolutions.
