I work at a bank and a dude came in ecstatic saying that he won the candian lottery, and the winnings totaled 3 million dollars and he was going to give me money because I had to set up a wire for him so he could send them 5 grand to claim the funds blah blah blah. I couldnt believe it. This day and age, someone could actually think that these are real. First thing I asked was "have you ever even played the lottery in canada?" Blank look. I had to sit down in my office with this dude for a hour explaining how it was fake. Nigerian scams happen all the time too, had the same thing with a senior lady that thought the same thing.

The sad thing is when people fall for this crap. The Nigerian scam has been going on since the 70's.

They had just lost their jobs so they were especially vulnerable. They waited and waited but the money never arrived. Eventually they lost their house and went onto welfare, pulling their child out of daycare. My baby girl was bummer, that kid was the only other kid her age. Last I checked, the parents are still trying to string together cash to get their "winnings" while their poor kid suffers.

I don't give a ---fudgesicle--- if you're so dumb as to fall for that scam, but when it affects those around you, its time for an intervention.

I guess thats kinda what I meant, when innocents are involved AND seniors. I dont know, they are usually mean, grumpy, and bitter at life, but I feel sorry for them when someone takes advantage of them. Soft spot for the old folks I guess.

Doesn't that sort of make sense though, the ones who both lost their jobs are foolish enough to believe that they had won the jackpot, and didn't pick up on the scam. Even after they are loosing everything around them, they still don't see it happening and can't cut their loses....Survival of the fittest/ Idiocracy kind of thing....

I remember receiving a similar email.. a supposed Nigerian prince who claimed to be a kidnapped but luckily escaped and somehow managed to get on a computer to tell me he only needed a little bit of money to get back to his home and riches, and if I did I would be greatly rewarded..  the email was so hilarious I should've saved it.  The best part was where he wanted me to wire the money, to a "B of A"  ...at the very bottom in fine print it read "Bank of Africa"

There are some hilarious Anti 419 Scam websites where they troll for these guys and start dialogues with them, pretending to be marks.  They try to get the scammers to stay in touch as long as possible and do more and more ridiculous things over the process.  They got a lot of the scammers to send their photo's, and their holy grail was to get a photo with the scammer holding a sign that says "NUM NUTZ"
