Painting interior of Marquee lightbox
« on: August 15, 2011, 01:53:48 pm »
The plans I was working from housed the marquee light in a box.   I have a few questions...

How concerned should I be about the small volume in that box regarding the fluorescent light?
The box is 25.5" wide x 6.25" deep, 3.75" at its smallest to 6.75" at its tallest.

I am considering painting the interior of that white to help with the light reflection.

Thanks for your input.

You don't want white, if anything you want black.  If you use white then the reclection/shadow or your light fixture is going to show up on the marquee.  Typically you want to just leave the wood unfinished as it's a happy medium in terms of color and reflection.

The light should fill it just fine, just be sure to mount the light at the deep end and have it pointing towards the shallow end.

But honestly, why won't you just plug in a florescent tube, stick it in the box, and see how it does?

Thanks for the tip on the color.  I was thinking about the movie theater poster project and thought about going with white.
Fair question.  I don't have a bulb and I don't have the ballast wired.   I also don't have a marquee yet.
