When I registered arcadeparadise.org back in 2000, I wanted to have arcadeparadise.com also, just to avoid confusion between the names. As it turned out, arcadeparadise.com was being sat on by a squatter - the site resolved to some kind of 'DOMAIN NAMES NOW" site in the UK. I contacted the person who owned it saying that I was interested in buying it. Bear in mind that this is for my hobby of cabinet building - I'm not trying to make money off of this, and I told the person this. He replied with "Make me an offer."
I thought about it for a little bit and wrote back with an offer of $50. Like I said, I didn't need the name for business purposes or anything, and hey, that's $50 more than this guy has currently by just sitting on it and doing nothing with it, right?
He writes back and says that he's planning on offering arcadeparadise.com with a bunch of other domain names in an auction, and that he will be opening the bidding at $10,000.
TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?? Uh, that was a little more than my offer of $50. So that was that.
I just checked the whois a few weeks ago, and whaddya know, arcadeparadise.com is available! So I snatched it up and I'm just using it as a redirect to arcadeparadise.org. The DNS seems to have propagated, so it's all peachy and working now. So EAT IT, jerkass! You could've made an easy $50 off of me! NYAH NYAH!
