Just picked up a Rastan PCB off eBay
« on: August 03, 2011, 04:29:11 pm »
Guy had it listed as working perfectly but no sound... this made me wonder.  Rastan requires the -5V on the JAMMA harness to run the sound amp.  Not all JAMMA harnesses have the -5V

I figured I'd pick it up and give it a try.  Got it for $10.  My candy cab does have the -5V connection.

Get it in the mail yesterday, plugged it in... sound works perfect!   :burgerking: :burgerking: :burgerking:

Nice find and for only $10

What do you plan to do with it?

I love Rastan. I'd love to have a dedicated cabinet one day.

Yeah, most working Rastan pcb's I have seen go in the $80 to $100 range.

For right now, it's going to reside in my candy cab.  I have a bunch of JAMMA boards that get rotated on that machine.  Eventually, I'd like to get a JAMMA switcher, and also have some more dedicated cabinets.

JAMMA PCBs:
Street Fighter II' (official)
Street Fighter II' (bootleg)
Double Dragon
Rastan
Dynamite Duke
Xmen vs. Street Fighter (CPS2)
Xmen
Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja
1 slot Neo Geo with:
    Samurai Showdown 1, 2, 3, and 4
    Puzzle Bobble
    Last Blade
    Metal Slug X

I think that's it... lol

want a KOF94 MVS cart? I sold both my Neogeos a while ago, and everytime I see the cart, it makes me miss them all over again
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

You should try to find a Rygar PCB (with JAMMA adapter). It's a much better game than Rastan IMHO. Rastan has very nice music and sound effects though.

Zero on ebay currently.  I'll have to fire up in MAME and give it a try.

I played Rastan a lot as a kid at the Boys & Girls club, so that one was a sentimental one for me.  I do really like the music.

Yup, I can hear the music now.  ;D

They used to have one at the Safeway on 48th St. and Indian School.  That thing got lots of quarters out of me.

I'm in AZ now, but I grew up on the east coast.

Justin, did you ever go play games at Tower Plaza?

My brother and I used to walk down to the corner gas station and play Rastan all the time. It definitely has sentimental value for me as well, and it's way better than Rygar.

and it's way better than Rygar.

Just curious why you think so? I've never played an 80's scrolling platform action game with better controls than Rygar. On the other end of that spectrum, I haven't played many 80's scrolling platform action games with worse controls than Rastan. Also, life bars are IMHO never a good gameplay design. Did you never die the frustrating death in Rastan where something just by standing close to you eats up your life bar? In Rygar, you can survive the most intense stuff by jumping/fighting if you have the skill to pull it off. In Rastan there are no intense stuff. I bought my Rastan PCB pretty cheap, played it a couple of times then out of frustration with all the gameplay flaws put it up for sale for a high price (as it had some sentimental value still) and was surprised when a guy emailed me and wanted it.

Rygar is fun EVERY credit I play.

Absolutely!  There was also an arcade in the abortive Scottsdale Esplanade for awhile.  I think it was called Aladdin's something or another.

I think the one at Tower Plaza was an Aladdin's as well. We'd go catch a dollar movie, then go play some games at the arcade while we waited for a ride. Good times.

Yup!  That's awesome.  We'd usually take the bus, or ride bikes.  My one buddy lived at 40th and Campbell so it wasn't too terrible of a ride to get over there.

Heh. I also remember going to Thomas Mall and buying Atari games from this kiosk they had there. My cousin and I paid $2 each for Atari RealSports baseball, Moon Patrol, and Vanguard, which was totally worth it!
